Soft Tissue Regeneration Inc. is advancing a breakthrough technology to treat anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries – common among active athletes. The company’s patented technology is expected to improve healing for patients. Its L-C Ligament™ product is a biocompatible and degradable synthetic braided scaffold that replaces a torn ACL and encourages the regeneration of ligament tissue. 

The president of STR cites two reasons for moving the company to Connecticut from Virginia: the relocation of STR’s scientific founder, Dr. Cato Laurencin…and Connecticut Innovations. Laurencin, an internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon, moved to Connecticut from Virginia in mid-2008 to become dean of the University of Connecticut Medical School and vice president of health services for the university. While this development was significant, STR’s relationship with CI was the deciding factor in the company’s decision to relocate.

Impressed by STR’s technology and talented team of scientists and executives, CI signed off on an investment of $750,000 in STR in June 2009, part of a $3.5 million Series A round.

STR settled into its Stamford office in August 2009. The company is in discussions with prospective investors and has initiated Phase I animal trials.
