Connecticut has experienced a dramatic increase in the number of emerging companies engaged in software, IT and Internet products and services. These innovative companies, which number more than 1,000, are developing the advanced application software vital to e-business and other 21st century technology solutions.
Bioscience is a major driver of the state´s economy, and the industry here is growing at a rate far exceeding the national average. Connecticut is home to research facilities of four of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, two major academic research institutions, and a growing number of cutting-edge biotechnology firms, many of which are CI portfolio companies.
America´s future depends on the availability of clean, affordable energy. Connecticut is home to a number of companies that are developing the technologies that will power America's homes and businesses for generations to come. And CI is funding companies-both in Connecticut and elsewhere-that will make alternative energy solutions more accessible and affordable to Connecticut citizens.
Photonics is the science of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy for use in a broad range of applications, including medicine, telecommunications, science, manufacturing and defense. The companies that make up Connecticut´s growing photonics industry are developing technologies that are in the forefront of addressing the needs of industries worldwide.
Innovative technologies come in many forms. Connecticut Innovations may choose to fund companies that are developing groundbreaking products and processes in areas that defy categorization.
