Connecticut Innovations Announces Appointment of A. V. Srinivasan, Ph.D., to its Board of Directors

Engineer, Entrepreneur and Educator Brings Diverse Expertise to CI Board

Rocky Hill, Conn., June 9, 2008 – Connecticut Innovations (CI), the state’s quasi-public authority responsible for technology investing and innovation development, today announced that A. V. (“Sheenu”) Srinivasan, Ph.D., has been appointed to CI’s board of directors by Governor M. Jodi Rell. He brings extensive technical and business experience to this post as well as a longstanding commitment to educating future scientists and business leaders.

Governor M. Jodi Rell said, “Dr. Srinivasan will be a tremendous asset to Connecticut Innovations. As a highly respected engineer and business leader, he is well-equipped to provide valuable guidance to the organization that is leading the way in growing entrepreneurial, technology-based companies in Connecticut.”

Dr. Srinivasan’s experience in the corporate world spans over three decades. He led Strategic Technologies International Inc. as its president for six years and served for fifteen years as a researcher and manager of research at the United Technologies Research Center, focusing on work related to components of turbomachinery, propeller fans, helicopters, elevators, compressors and other products. Dr. Srinivasan also worked in various research and engineering capacities for eleven years while at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and Kaman Aircraft.

His academic credentials include teaching stints at University of Connecticut, Yale University, Rensselaer at Hartford, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, University of Florida, University of Iowa and other institutions. Dr. Srinivasan has published books and research reports, such as the graduate-level engineering textbook Smart Structures: Analysis and Design (Cambridge University Press, 2001), of which he was the primary author. He has also held journal editorships and board and committee memberships, including board member of the World Affairs Center of Greater Hartford and member of the Joint Indo-US Committee on Aeronautics set up by the prime minister of India. Dr. Srinivasan also holds a U.S. patent in the area of vibration control through shape memory alloys.

Additionally, Dr. Srinivasan is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Most notably, he received the Connecticut Immigrant Award for 1999 and the International Scholar Award for 1997 from the International Gas Turbine Institute of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Mysore, India, master’s and doctoral degrees in structural mechanics from the University of Iowa, and a master’s degree in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dr. Srinivasan is a long-time resident of Glastonbury, Conn.
