Rocky Hill, Conn., January 24, 2008 – Connecticut Innovations (CI), the state’s quasi-public authority responsible for technology investing and innovation development, today announced that Peter L. Cashman has been appointed to CI’s board of directors by Governor M. Jodi Rell. He brings extensive business experience in the technology and investment sectors to this post as well as a proven commitment to CI and the State of Connecticut.
Governor M. Jodi Rell said, “Peter is an experienced entrepreneur and is well-equipped to understand the challenges that early-stage technology companies face. He brings extensive business experience in the technology and investment sectors to this post, and Connecticut Innovations will benefit from his vast knowledge. Peter will help CI to create jobs in Connecticut.”
Mr. Cashman is presently chairman of Old Lyme-based Cashman Computer Associates LLC, a computer technology solution provider, and manages a variety of private investment funds. Previously he served as chairman, chief executive officer and founder of Milford, Conn., based Environmental Data Resources Inc. (EDR), an environmental risk information company in which CI was an investor, and chairman and chief executive officer of the Sanborn Map Company, acquired by EDR in 1996. While leading EDR, he was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Information Industry Association. He also previously was president and co-founder of BCA Environmental Services Inc., a manufacturer of pollution control equipment and provider of environmental consulting and laboratory services. Additionally, he served as executive vice president of York Research Corporation.
His service to the State of Connecticut includes a term as lieutenant governor under former Governor Thomas J. Meskill, as well as posts including state senator and president pro-tem of the Connecticut State Senate. Mr. Cashman currently serves on CI’s Eli Whitney Advisory Committee, which evaluates and analyzes proposed investments, and previously served on the Clean Energy Advisory Committee, advising the CI board of directors on matters related to the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.
Mr. Cashman is a long-time resident of Fairfield, Conn.
