Peter V. Longo   

Peter V. Longo, CPA, CFA
President and Executive Director

Peter joined Connecticut Innovations in 1995.  He manages CI’s array of initiatives, including its venture capital investments, laboratory infrastructure fund and support service initiatives.  Under his leadership, CI introduced the Pre-Seed Support Services Program, Connecticut Clean Tech Fund and CTech, an entrepreneurial assistance initiative.  Additionally, Peter oversees the administration of the ratepayer-funded Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.

Peter has invested in over 20 early-stage investment opportunities across a variety of technology sectors, leading CI investments in Achillion Pharmaceuticals, CYA Technologies, Nufern, Perimeter eSecurity, Post-N-Track and Transaction Methods.  He serves on the boards of CYA Technologies, ExeCue, Optiwind and Post-N-Track. He is a board observer of Perimeter eSecurity and Transaction Methods.

In addition, Peter serves on the advisory board of the University of Connecticut School of Engineering

Prior to being named president and executive director of CI in 2007, Peter was a member of CI’s investment team and most recently was chief investment officer for CI.  He also previously served as controller of CI before he joined the investment team.

Peter is a certified public accountant and a chartered financial analyst. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Connecticut and holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Hartford. Peter also served six years in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Kevin Crowley   

Kevin Crowley
Managing Director, Investments

Kevin joined Connecticut Innovations in 2006. He has led CI’s investments in Cara Therapeutics and Oil Purifications Systems. Kevin serves on the boards of frevvo, Oil Purification Systems, RemoTV, Retail Optimization, and Standing Stone and is a board observer for Cara Therapeutics. Additionally, Kevin manages the $46 million Connecticut BioScience Facilities Fund, which invests in the build-out of wet laboratory space.

Prior to joining CI, Kevin was director of the Office of BioScience at the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), where he was responsible for bioscience business recruitment, client interaction, bioscience related public policy strategy and day-to-day operations of the office. He also previously served as director of business recruitment in DECD's Business Recruitment and Industry Clusters Division, negotiating relocation incentive packages for high priority corporate development projects.

Kevin holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Quinnipiac University.

 

Stepheni J. Harpin   

Stepheni J. Harpin
Investment Analyst

Stepheni has been with Connecticut Innovations since 1992. She helps with the due diligence process and assists the investment team. Stepheni joined the investment team in 1999 as an investment analyst, screening inquiries and tracking the progress of potential investment clients. Previously, she served as finance associate, responsible for legislative reporting and investment tracking.

Prior to joining CI, Stepheni worked for several years in retail management and law firm administration.  Stepheni holds a bachelor's degree in business management and human resource development from the University of Connecticut as well as a master's degree in business administration from the University of Hartford.

 

Patrick O'Neill

Investment Associate

Patrick joined Connecticut Innovations in 2006.  His focus is in the area of clean technology and,with expertise gained while part of the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund team, he is now helping to launch and manage the new Connecticut Clean Tech Fund. Patrick is a board observer of Acumentrics, Optiwind, one of the first companies to receive an investment through the Connecticut Clean Tech Fund, and SmartEquip.

Prior to joining CI’s investment team, Patrick was a project manager for the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund’s On-Site Renewable Distributed Generation Program and Project 100.  In this role, Patrick performed financial analysis on numerous renewable energy projects that utilized diverse technologies including fuel cell, solar photovoltaic, hydro and sustainable biomass.  Previously, Patrick worked for UTC Power, Duke Engineering and Services (now Areva NP Inc.) and Yankee Atomic Electric Corporation.

Patrick holds a master's degree in business administration from New York University's Stern School of Business, a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.  Additionally, Patrick is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Connecticut.

 

Pauline M. Murphy

Managing Director, Investments

Pauline joined Connecticut Innovations in 2002.  Pauline has led CI’s investments in Environmental Energy Services, etouches, FMP Products, New Ortho Polymers, Premise Corporation and XLerant.  She serves on the boards of Environmental Energy Services, etouches, FMP Products, New Ortho Polymers, ShopText and Xlerant and is a board observer of CGI Pharmaceuticals.  In addition to being responsible for initiating and closing deals, Pauline manages the investment associates and investment team support staff.

Three of the former CI portfolio companies that Pauline was involved with have been acquired: CGI Pharmaceuticals, Nufern and Premise Corporation. Additionally, Pauline is involved with one portfolio company, CiDRA Corporation, that successfully sold its oil and gas metering business segment.

Pauline joined CI with over ten years of experience in both manufacturing and service organizations. She was controller of an early-stage software development company and launched her career at Ernst & Young, LLP.

She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and is a registered certified public accountant in the state of Connecticut.

 

Julie F. Rader

Director, Business Investment & Analysis

Julie joined Connecticut Innovations in 1993.  She is responsible for analyzing new investment opportunities, assisting the investment team with due diligence and tracking the progress of investment candidates.  Julie also maintains CI’s information resources.

Julie came to CI with 15 years of experience as a media specialist in the Connecticut school system and in public libraries. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Theresa, Kansas City, and took graduate-level courses in library science at Southern Connecticut State University.

 

Russ Tweeddale

Managing Director, Investments

Russell has been with Connecticut Innovations and its predecessor organization since 1985.  Over the past 20 years, he has invested in more than 50 companies.  He has led CI’s investments in bioscience companies including Affomix Corporation, Cardiopulmonary Corporation, Genaissance Pharmaceuticals, Helix Therapeutics, LLC, Ipsogen Inc. and Metagenomix, Inc.,  He also led CI’s investment in I-Mark.  He serves on the boards of Helix, Ipsogen Inc., Metagenomix, and is also a board observer of Affomix and Ipsogen SA, parent of Ipsogen Inc.

Seven of the current or former CI portfolio companies that Russell invested in have had successful initial public offerings:  Achillion Pharmaceuticals, BioPlexus, Genaissance Pharmaceuticals, Ipsogen, International Telecommunication Data Systems (ITDS), Open Solutions and Proton Energy Systems.  Additionally, two of the companies in which he invested were acquired:  Cardium Health Services (acquired by Centene Corporation) and Genaissance Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Clinical Data).

Russell came to CI with over 25 years of experience in economic and venture analysis, engineering cost accounting, systems analysis, scientific and commercial programming, math analysis, EDP auditing and computer modeling.  He was previously with Scientific Leasing, the Robert E. Nolan Co. and United Technologies Corp.

Russ holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Hartford.


Anil Vasigiri   

Anil Vasagiri
Director, Investments

Anil joined Connecticut Innovations in 2007.  His focus has been in the area of information technology.  Anil led CI’s investment in several early stage information technology companies and currently serves on the boards of ExeCue, Continuity Engine, Sustainable Real Estate Solutions, Interactive Mobile Advertising and Weston Software.

Anil came to CI with more than ten years of experience in business strategy, operations, finance and business development in Fortune 500 high-technology and communications companies. As a senior consultant at IBM, Anil evaluated investment opportunities in new technologies and worked on engagements to streamline business operations. As a manager at Oracle, Anil led product development initiatives and solution implementation teams for several client engagements. Anil also worked as a summer associate at TL Ventures, conducting IT industry research.  Additionally, he served as an intern with the video and media engineering group of Comcast Corporation, where he conducted market research on alternate multicasting platforms and evaluated new technologies for increasing broadcast bandwidth.

Anil earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in chemical engineering from Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, India, and a Master of Business Administration degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.


Dan Wagner

Senior Investment Associate

Dan joined Connecticut Innovations in 2007 and is responsible for evaluating investment opportunities, structuring new investments and monitoring portfolio companies.  He has been involved in CI’s investments in, and serves as a board observer for, Axerion , CyVek, EpiEP , FMP Products , Helix Therapeutics , Metagenomix , ShopText , and Soft Tissue Regeneration . Dan has also been involved with CI’s investments in Cara Therapeutics and LiQuifix and serves as a board observer for eNR Services and Rib-X Pharmaceuticals .  Dan also helps to administer Connecticut’s $100 million Stem Cell Research Fund in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Dan came to CI with over ten years of experience in the Connecticut biotech arena.  He was previously employed by CuraGen Corporation, a successful former CI portfolio company. While at CuraGen, Dan held a variety of scientific and operational management positions.  His extensive experience in research and development, technology assessment, and implementation of next generation scientific technologies enabled Dan to help transform CuraGen from a genomic and proteomic platform company into a biopharmaceutical firm dedicated to advancing its protein, antibody and small molecule therapeutics.

Dan represents Connecticut Innovations on the board of the Connecticut Venture Group and participates on the Young Connecticut Venture Group program committee.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Dayton and earned both Master of Business Administration and Master of Health Sciences degrees from Quinnipiac University.


David Wurzer   

David Wurzer
Managing Director, Investments

Dave joined Connecticut Innovations in 2009.  He is responsible for sourcing and analyzing investment opportunities, leading CI investments in entrepreneurial high-tech ventures and advising portfolio companies. Dave serves on the boards of Axerion Therapeutics, CyVek, LegiTime Technologies and Retail Optimization,  DUSA Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ GM:DUSA) and Strategic Diagnostics, Inc. d/b/a SDIX (NASDAQ:SDIX).

Dave came to CI with extensive senior-level experience in operations and finance. Most recently, he was executive vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer of CuraGen Corporation (NASDAQ: CRGN), a former CI portfolio company. Dave guided the biotech company through its initial public offering and helped raise over $700 million for the company. Dave was also involved in negotiating strategic and business development alliances with several pharmaceutical and biotech companies, including Roche, Bayer, and Amgen-Freemont (Abgenix). He helped to grow CuraGen and its technology development subsidiary into an operation with over 500 employees and a market capitalization as high as $5.3 billion.

Previously, Dave served as senior vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer of Value Health Inc. (NYSE:VH), a specialty managed health care company. He helped the company achieve exceptional growth, actively participating in multiple acquisitions and public offerings and the sale of the company to Columbia/HCA for $1.1 billion.

Dave began his professional career with Coopers & Lybrand in Hartford, Conn. (now part of PricewaterhouseCoopers), where he held various accounting and managerial positions.
He is a certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy degree from the University of Notre Dame.  


Business Development
Charlie Moret   

Charles Moret
Managing Director, Business Development

Charlie is the managing director, business development for Connecticut Innovations. He is responsible for developing and supporting business opportunities for CI and maintaining relationships with key partner organizations. He also directs CI’s pre-seed support initiatives, which include CTech, a technology business incubator. Charlie joined CI in 2000 with more than 25 years of experience in business, finance, marketing and entrepreneurship. He holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Pace University and a master's degree in business administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has been active on numerous boards, such as the Connecticut Venture Group board and Simsbury Board of Education, and in community organizations, including the Hartbeat Ensemble.

 

SBIR Team
Deb Santy   

Deb Santy
Director, SBIR

Deb and her Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) team joined Connecticut Innovations in 2009 after the Connecticut SBIR Office was moved to CI.

She has spent the past five years building, from the ground up, a vibrant, new Connecticut SBIR Office and overseeing its day-to-day operations. The Connecticut SBIR Office helps small, high-tech businesses, innovative manufacturers and entrepreneurs compete for and win federal research and development grant funding through the federal SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Connecticut’s SBIR office also helps to facilitate the commercialization of SBIR and STTR technologies by promoting collaborations between SBIR/STTR companies and industry, university and government partners.

In 2007, Deb’s work was recognized with a national Tibbett’s Award, presented to individuals, organizations, small firms, and projects judged to exemplify the very best in SBIR achievement.

Deb came to CI with over twenty years of experience leading startups and directing business change, technology integration and project management for some of the nation’s largest insurance companies. Additionally, she operated her own consulting business for over five years, serving Fortune 100 firms and start-up companies.

Deb authored a workbook for developing business plans, entitled Business Succe$$ - Plan On It!, and used it while teaching at Florida Institute of Technology. It was later purchased by the Small Business Administration and colleges nationwide.

Deb is a graduate of Elmira College and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Hartford.

 

Merrie London

Manager, SBIR

Merrie joined Connecticut Innovations in 2009, along with other members of the Connecticut Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Office team, after the Connecticut SBIR Office was moved to CI.

As manager of SBIR, Merrie supports small, high-tech Connecticut businesses that need research and development funding as well as funding for commercialization. She reviews federal SBIR proposals, makes presentations to groups regarding federal SBIR funding, organizes matchmaking events for innovators, and meets with entrepreneurial high-tech and manufacturing companies to help them advance and commercialize their technologies.

Merrie is an entrepreneur herself. In 1990, she founded her own business, Inspired Solutions Corporation, which became a leading presentations and marketing company with offices in three Connecticut locations. Inspired Solutions successfully served Fortune 500 companies until 2002. Merrie then went on to establish another company, Harlequin Soaps, a global e-commerce company. Her experience as an entrepreneur gives her firsthand knowledge and appreciation of the challenges and joys of business ownership.

Merrie graduated from SUNY Binghamton and holds a Master of Library Science degree from SUNY Albany.

 

Angela Caponetto

Administrative Assistant

Angela joined Connecticut Innovations in 2009, along with other members of the Connecticut Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Office team, after the Connecticut SBIR Office was moved to CI.

Angela maintains the SBIR team’s customer relationship database as well as a database of SBIR awards received by Connecticut companies. She assists in organizing SBIR-related events, provides updated content for the Connecticut SBIR Office website and generates the team’s quarterly progress report. Additionally, Angela sends communications and informational updates to SBIR award winners, prospects and other SBIR contacts. She is also responsible for following up on requests pertaining to most Connecticut SBIR programs.

Angela is fluent in three languages: English, Italian and Spanish. She is currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in Italian.

 

Technology and Program Management
Emily C. Smith   

Emily C. Smith
Chief of Staff & Managing Director, External Relations

Emily joined Connecticut Innovations in 1998. She is senior advisor to CI's president and executive director assisting with the development, implementation and evaluation of CI policies, goals and objectives. Emily is responsible for communications, marketing and media relations as well as directing programs and operations related to legislation and regulation. Previously, Emily represented the state's largest managed care company before the state legislature. She is active in several community organizations and was chairwoman of the North Branford Economic Development Commission. Emily received a bachelor's degree in political science from Providence College.

 

Jocelyn Anastasiou   

Jocelyn Anastasiou
Marketing Coordinator

Jocelyn joined Connecticut Innovations in 2010. Jocelyn provides support and assistance to the marketing team. She is responsible for maintaining marketing and media distribution lists; the preparation of marketing collateral; assisting with the management of events; assisting with web content and marketing collateral content revisions; and for maintaining the website events listings and press releases. Jocelyn holds a Master of Arts degree in elementary education from Sacred Heart University and a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from Eastern Connecticut State University.

 

Pamela A. Hartley

Marketing Manager

Pamela has been with Connecticut Innovations since 1989 and is responsible for marketing communications. Previously she served as director, development, and director, business development. In the latter role, she was responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with outside organizations with which Connecticut Innovations could leverage its funding. Also, she previously served as director, Connecticut Technology Partnerships, and was responsible for the Connecticut Technology Partnership Program, which provided loans to match federal research funding and commercialization funds to help launch Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) projects. Pamela graduated cum laude from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in biology. Pamela served for six years on the board of directors of the Yale Club of Hartford.

 

Suzanne Kaswan   

Suzanne Kaswan
Human Resources Manager

Suzanne joined Connecticut Innovations in 2007 as the human resources manager. She is involved in a full range of human resource functions including recruitment, training, and employee relations. Previously, Suzanne worked at the Department of Administrative Services as a human resources consultant. She also has done consulting in the private sector in the areas of recruitment, classification and compensation. Suzanne earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Connecticut.

 

John Murphy

Marketing Manager

John joined Connecticut Innovations in 2004. In his role as marketing manager, John is responsible for a broad range of marketing efforts, including website development, collateral material design, marketing communications, public relations, and market research. Prior to joining CI, John developed his hands-on marketing skills over the course of 16 years with Integrated Industrial Systems, a machinery engineering and manufacturing firm in Yalesville, Connecticut. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from Eastern Connecticut State University.

 

Gladys Rivera

Senior Marketing Manager

Gladys joined Connecticut Innovations in 2001. She is responsible for a variety of marketing functions designed to raise awareness of Connecticut Innovations, enhance its image, and communicate its key messages to primary markets, referral sources and other key audiences. Gladys is also responsible for event management. Gladys joined Connecticut Innovations with several years of marketing and contract administration experience.

 

Chelsey Sarnecky

External Relations Coordinator

Chelsey joined Connecticut Innovations in 2007 as a legislative assistant. As external relations coordinator, Chelsey is responsible for tracking and monitoring legislation of importance to the organization; attending legislative committee meetings and public hearings; and, working with other interested parties to advance CI's legislative agenda. Chelsey also provides administrative support to the Connecticut Stem Cell Research Fund. Chelsey attended Central Connecticut State University and currently attends Charter Oak State College.

George D. Bellas   

George D. Bellas
Vice President, Finance and Administration

George joined Connecticut Innovations in 2005 as its controller and in 2006 was promoted to vice president, finance and administration. Previously, he worked for 20 years as the controller of two divisions of BKM. He also spent five years at Price Waterhouse as a senior accountant. George served as a committee chair of the Continuing Education Committee of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and has been a volunteer at Community Accounting Aid and Services. He is a certified public accountant and has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in accounting from Western New England College.

 

Heidi J. Bieber

Administrative Assistant

Heidi joined Connecticut Innovations in 1995. She is the administrative assistant to the president of CI, vice president of finance and administration, chairman of the board and investment team. Previously, she assisted the president of the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and CCEF’s staff. When she joined CI, Heidi assisted the investment team of CI as its secretary. Before joining CI, Heidi worked for eight years as an administrative assistant at Education & Training Programs (ETP). Prior to that, she worked for Wetzel Tool and Joseph H. Bertram & Co. Heidi attended Manchester Community College and Hartford College for Women.

 

Joseph J. Casparino

Managing Director, Information Technology

Joe began consulting for Connection Innovations in 1996 and became an employee in 1998. He is responsible for CI’s systems infrastructure, including its computer hardware, software, and network systems and phone systems. Joe brought to CI 20 years of experience in computer systems. Joe is a graduate of the University of Hartford Samuel Ward College and served for four years in the United States Air Force.

 

Donna Connolly

Accounting Manager

Donna joined Connecticut Innovations in 2005 as a senior accountant. She is responsible for generating financial statements for both Connecticut Innovations and the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund. Donna brought with her eight years of corporate financial accounting experience with a manufacturing company. Donna graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

 

Bonnie K. Greenwell   

Bonnie K. Greenwell
Payroll Administrator

Bonnie has been with Connecticut Innovations since 1994 and is responsible for payroll. Bonnie was hired as a secretary and promoted to an administrative assistant in 1997. In 1999, Bonnie was promoted to database administrator. As database administrator, she was responsible for the management of CI's database. Prior to joining CI, Bonnie was employed as a secretary at Western Connecticut State University, a senior clerk at the Connecticut Department of Public Works and a data entry operator for the state comptroller. She also worked for six years in the data processing department of Bethlehem Steel Corporation as a data entry operator/supervisor.

 

Michelle Leonard   

Michelle Leonard
Senior Accountant

Michelle joined the staff at Connecticut Innovations in 2008 as a senior accountant. She is involved in the financial statement preparation for CI and the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund. Michelle received her undergraduate degree in accounting from Sacred Heart University and a master’s degree in business administration from Southern Connecticut State University. She brings with her two years of public accounting experience as an auditor and three years of experience as an accountant at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

 

Kimberly Peretto   

Kimberly Peretto
Software Support Specialist

Kimberly joined Connecticut Innovations in December 2006. She provides software support and training to the staff, as well as develops and manages a new CRM-based database system. Previously, she provided support to the external relations team. Before joining CI, Kimberly worked in the development department at the New Britain Museum of American Art as their membership associate. She brings to CI a variety of technology experience through college internships and coursework. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Joseph College.

 

Irene Turker

Receptionist/Accounting Clerk

Irene joined Connecticut Innovations in May 2008. In addition to serving as CI’s receptionist, Irene provides support services to the marketing, business development and finance departments. She was promoted to her current position in 2009. She brings with her over ten years of office experience in the hospitality field. Irene was the office manager at an internationally know destination spa in northeastern Connecticut. She joins CI with much enthusiasm and pride to be part of such an innovative enterprise. Irene is a native of New York, grew up on the north shore of Long Island and attended State University of New York at Cobleskill.

 

Connecticut Clean Energy Fund
Lise Dondy   

Lise Dondy, President
Vice President, Connecticut Innovations

Lise is the president of the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, having joined CCEF’s staff in 2004 as its chief operating officer. She now oversees the fund’s $154 million in assets budgeted or deployed. Lise has been responsible for launching many of CCEF’s key initiatives. Among them are a solar incentive program for residents; an incentive program designed to encourage the installation of clean energy generating technology at commercial, industrial and institutional facilities in Connecticut; and an incentive program to help early-stage companies develop new clean energy technologies. Additionally, under her leadership, CCEF launched an award winning program that encourages communities to promote and adopt clean energy.

Previously, Lise had been managing director, investments, for Connecticut Innovations where she originated and oversaw equity investments in 13 portfolio companies.

She holds a bachelor's degree from Lake Forest College and a master's degree in business administration from the Yale School of Management.

 

Jillian Carbone  

Jillian Carbone
Project Associate

Jillian is part of the energy market initiatives team. As project associate, Jillian works with municipalities and educators on promoting the adoption of clean energy. She manages the earned solar installation projects for Connecticut Clean Energy Communities, the Community Innovations Grants Program, and outreach through social media and CCEF-hosted events. Prior to joining the energy market initiatives team, Jillian was the assistant to the president of the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.
Jillian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Southern Connecticut State University.


 

Jillian Carbone   

Christin Cifaldi
Project Manager

Christin supports the growth, coordination and development of the incentive programs for renewable energy projects. She manages the CT Solar Lease program as well as the Solar PV Rebate Program. In addition, Christin oversees commercial solar projects funded through the On-Site Renewable Distributed Generation Program and manages CCEF’s Renewable Energy Credit portfolio. Prior to joining the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund as a project associate in 2008, Christin worked for the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority evaluating affordable housing developments in communities across the state.

Christin holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Hartford and a bachelor’s degree in real estate and urban economic studies from the University of Connecticut’s business school. Beginning in the fall of 2010, Christin will be attending the University of Connecticut part time and working toward achieving a Graduate Certificate in Public Financial Management from the Department of Public Policy. 

 

Bill Colonis   

Bill Colonis
Project Manager

Bill joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in 2007. He supports the implementation and development of the incentive programs for small renewable energy systems, including the Small Solar PV Rebate Program, Solar Thermal Incentive Program and Ground-Source Heat Pump Incentive Program. Bill was promoted to his current position in 2009, having previously served as project associate. He has been a small business owner and has worked several years in the environmental consulting industry in both New York and Connecticut. Bill holds a Master of Science degree in environmental management from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and education from Merrimack College.

 

Keith Frame   

Keith Frame
Director, New Technologies

Keith evaluates proposals from developers seeking funding to support the development of new clean energy technologies or innovative combinations of existing clean energy technologies. Keith coordinates and oversees Connecticut Clean Energy Fund project budgets and disbursements. He had previously spent nearly 20 years in the power industry at Northeast Utilities. Keith holds a bachelor of science degree in aeronautics and astronautics engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 

Loyola French   

Loyola French
Paralegal

Loyola is a paralegal supporting the legal and regulatory team of the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund. Under the supervision of the director of regulatory policy, her responsibilities include assisting with the drafting of various legal agreements relating to renewable energy projects; assisting in contract administration and tracking; and maintaining records of dockets, pleadings, and statues. She brought to CCEF law firm and court system experience. Loyola attended Elms College, Eastern Connecticut State University and Manchester Community College, earning a paralegal degree.

 

David Goldberg   

David Goldberg
Director, Strategic Initiatives

As director, strategic initiatives David focuses on creating new market and program opportunities for the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund on behalf of ratepayers throughout Connecticut. David joined the CCEF team in 2007. Previously, he had been managing renewable energy policy and programs for the Department of Public Utility Control. David briefed commissioners and executive staff members on research and policy analysis and served as a department spokesperson and representative on numerous state, regional and federal committees including the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Connecticut Climate Change Coordinating Committee, Washington Action Alert Committee, ISO-NE Capacity Protocol Committee and NEPOOL GIS Committee.

David received a Bachelor of Arts degree in organizational communications with a primary focus on public and private management and is currently working towards a Master of Business Administration degree in marketing.  

 

Dale Hedman   

Dale Hedman
Director, Project Development

Dale evaluates project proposals involving commercially available fuel cell, solar, biomass, landfill gas and wind equipment technologies and determines what financial and/or technical support the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund may be able to offer to make the projects economically viable. Previously, he was with US Energy Biogas Corporation, Yankee Energy Services Company's Energy Division and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Dale holds a master's degree in business administration from Xavier University and a bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University.

 

Dondy   

Dave Ljungquist
Associate Director, Project Development

Dave's career has been concentrated in new business and product development for both large companies and small, entrepreneurial companies. His involvement in the energy field began in 1990, when he worked for Nitech, Inc., a joint venture between Niagara Mohawk Power Co. and a small Connecticut product design/engineering firm. He subsequently joined Northeast Utilities as that organization was gearing up to meet the challenges of deregulation. Following his time with NU, and before joining the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, he helped with the startup of Nxegen, Inc., a company that provides energy monitoring and management services. Dave holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia University.

 

Lynne Lewis   

Lynne Lewis
Project Assistant

Lynne joined Connecticut Innovations in 2005. As project assistant, Lynne assists in the administration of the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund’s Solar Thermal Incentive Program and Ground-Source Heat Pump Incentive Program. She was promoted to her current position in 2009 after serving as administrative assistant to CCEF’s On-Site Renewable Distributed Generation and Operational Demonstration program groups. Before coming to CI, Lynne worked in diverse areas in a corporate environment, most recently as the program administrator for Aetna Inc.'s fleet car safety program. Prior to that, she had worked as a consultant in the company's ergonomics consulting department. Lynne has volunteered in various capacities for a number of civic, social, and health organizations/groups including the American Cancer Society of Connecticut and the Connecticut Valley Girl Scouts.

 

Neil McCarthy   

Neil McCarthy
Project Associate

Neil joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in 2010. As a project associate in CCEF’s Project Development group, he provides support for the Geothermal Heat Pump Incentive Program and the Solar Thermal Incentive Program. Neil previously worked as a construction coordinator for a large-scale wastewater treatment facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and as a volunteer advocate for the ongoing Cape Wind project in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Neil holds a Master of Science degree in environmental engineering science and management and a Bachelor of Science degree in civil and environmental engineering, both from Carnegie Mellon University.

 

Elizabeth Olney   

Elizabeth Olney
Project Associate

Elizabeth joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in 2009 as a project associate, supporting the Solar Thermal Incentive Program and Geothermal Heat Pump Incentive Program. In this capacity, she processes incentive applications, maintains records, and prepares reports. Prior to joining CCEF, she worked in the University of Connecticut’s Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics as a teaching and research assistant, with a special interest in energy economics. Elizabeth holds a Master of Science degree in agricultural and resource economics from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

 

Beth Piggush   

Beth Piggush
Program Manager

Beth supports voluntary market initiatives and educates the public about the benefits and availability of clean energy. She manages the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund’s formal education initiatives and informal museum-based initiatives. Additionally, she oversees initiatives to support green job training. Previously, Beth worked for the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters as the education director, introducing environmental public policy issues to communities across the state. Beth is an active participant and volunteer in matters of sustainability and renewable energy in the Greater Hartford region. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and has completed the National Sustainable Building Advisor course.

 

Selya Price   

Selya Price
Program Manager

Selya joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in 2010. She contributes to the implementation of programs supporting the development and commercialization of innovative clean energy technologies. Prior to CCEF, she worked as an analyst at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory supporting the Solar Energy Technologies Program. Selya holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts degree in mathematics from the City College of New York.

 

Rick M. Ross   

Rick M. Ross
Senior Project Manager

Rick Ross joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in 2007 as project manager for the On-Site Renewable Distributed Generation (DG) program. He is a seasoned project manager, having spent over 20 years in project development and management in the energy industry. Prior to joining CCEF, he worked for UTC Power as a project development manager in the commercial on-site power division. He has received several design patents in helping forge the way for the commercialization of on-site fuel cell power generation technology. Rick holds a master's degree in business administration from Western New England College and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Connecticut.

 

Sharon Roth   

Sharon J. Roth
Administrative Assistant

Sharon joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in 2010. She provides support and assistance to the New Technologies team at CCEF. Sharon was an English teacher for twelve years, an executive assistant for ten years and a business analyst for two years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and a Master of Arts degree in French from the State University of New York at New Paltz.

 

Cheryl Samuels   

Cheryl Samuels
Administrative Assistant

Cheryl joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in 2009. She is the administrative assistant to the president of CCEF, chair of CCEF’s board of directors and director of strategic initiatives for CCEF. Previously, she served as a part-time receptionist for Connecticut Innovations and CCEF. Before coming to CCEF, Cheryl worked in diverse capacities within the corporate environment, most recently as a business support specialist for Iron Mountain Records Management. Prior to that, she was a telecommunications analyst for Aetna Life & Casualty. For several years Cheryl has also held a position with the town of Windsor, working at the front lending desk of the Windsor Public Library.

 

Matthew Stone   

Kim Stevenson
Manager, New Technologies

Kim evaluates proposals and develops and manages programs to support development and commercialization of new clean energy technologies. She has spent over 15 years in innovation and technology management, working with the senior management of Fortune 500 corporations and smaller organizations to conceive, develop and commercialize new products and services focused on energy, industrial and automotive markets. Kim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and a Master of Science degree in urban planning, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 

Matthew Stone   

Matthew L. Stone
Counsel

Matt supervises the CCEF’s legal and regulatory group and is responsible for state and federal legal and regulatory compliance, drafting and negotiating contracts, and representing the CCEF before the Connecticut DPUC and other regulatory agencies.

Prior to joining the CCEF in 2008 as associate counsel, Matt was brownfields coordinator for the Regional Growth Partnership in New Haven, where he acted as project manager for various pollution remediation projects, including several funded by the Environmental Protection Agency. Prior to that, he was a business development and government affairs liaison at the Connecticut Development Authority, where he primarily worked on the Authority’s legislative agenda, including drafting legislation and promoting its passage at the State Capitol.

Matt is admitted to practice law in Connecticut. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from Western New England College School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in legal studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

 

Lucy Sullivan   

Lucy Sullivan
Contract Administrator

Lucy is responsible for developing and maintaining a project/contract tracking and reporting system for Connecticut Clean Energy Fund programs. She brought to CCEF 20 years of business analysis, project management and database experience acquired from the insurance industry. Prior to joining CCEF, Lucy's most recent positions were senior business analyst with Travelers and financial controls manager with UnitedHealthcare.

 

Mary Vigil   

Mary C. Vigil
Project Assistant

Mary started with the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in 2004 as a temporary employee and became part of the staff in 2005. She previously worked at UnitedHealthcare as a facility coordinator. Mary brought to CI over 15 years of secretarial and administrative experience.

 

Bob Wall   

Bob Wall
Director, Energy Market Initiatives

Bob develops and manages programs intended to increase consumer awareness of clean energy and its benefits to society. Prior to joining the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, he worked on clean energy marketing and grass roots initiatives in various New England states with nonprofits SmartPower and Clean Water Action. Bob also practiced complex civil litigation for nearly two decades in which he concentrated on environmental and public health issues. He earned a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University and a Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law.
