Information technology (IT) is one of Connecticut Innovations’ most active investment areas.
Connecticut has many assets that make it fertile ground for growing successful entrepreneurial IT ventures. Because of its proximity to financial institutions in New York, the southwest region of Connecticut has become a hub for IT companies that serve financial organizations both in New York and Fairfield County. A robust talent pool of marketing and media professionals there also makes the region a hotbed for IT companies focused on communications and new media. Additionally, because Connecticut is home to leading corporations and institutions – in insurance, financial services, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and other industries – it is offers IT companies a broad array of potential institutional customers.
Entrepreneurial students at Connecticut colleges and universities are making their mark on the IT scene as well, launching social media startups with help from CI.
The IT cluster in Connecticut is supported not only by CI but also by the Connecticut Technology Council, a statewide association of technology-oriented companies and institutions that provides leadership in areas of policy advocacy, community building and assistance for growing companies.
