The company was established in 2007 with a goal of providing high quality drug discovery services especially medicinal chemistry including rational drug design to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. The company has been successful in forming collaboration and providing chemistry services to several biotechnology companies especially in Connecticut, most notably Achillion Therapeutics, BioRelix and Helix Therapeutics – all companies which are engaged in the discovery of novel therapies for various diseases. We also have expertise in Shield-1 Protein Expression technology, which we can deploy to improve our customers’ drug discovery and development programs. In parallel with helping various customers with our medicinal chemistry expertise, we have started developing our own assets, especially in the cancer therapeutic area. We have developed a novel series of compounds that inhibit the ras pathway by inhibiting MEK kinase. We already have interesting data and IP on a small molecule MEK Inhibitor. MEK is a validated kinase target that several well-established Pharma/Biotech companies have early programs against but these programs have run into difficulty because of CNS toxicity and other issues. Early evidence on Cheminpharma’s series of compounds suggests we have more selectivity and CNS toxicity appears not be an issue which if these attributes hold up, will give us a significant developmental completive advantage.
